College of Dental Medicine student
wins research award
College of Dental Medicine student Cindy B. Nichols received an award
in clinical research at the annual Hinman Student Research Symposium.

Gilpatrick of the College of Dentistry, University of Tennessee Health
Science Center, and Dr. Wayne T. Tadsen, president, Hinman Dental
Society.
The symposium, held Oct. 28 - 30, featured oral and poster
presentations of research projects by dental students and graduate
students from across North America. At this year's symposium, 87
students represented 39 educational institutions in 24 states, the
District of Columbia, and 3 provinces of Canada.
The symposium was organized by the College of Dentistry at the
University of Tennessee Health Science Center and is supported inpart
by grants from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial
Research, the Procter & Gamble Company and Viral Antigens Inc.
Six awards were made for the most outstanding presentations, three in
clinical research and three in basic science research.
Nichols winning research project “Validation Study of the Oral Cancer
Screening Question” was directed by Susan G. Reed, DDS, assistant
professor in the College of Dental Medicine.
