Bioterrorism video increasing awareness among physiciansby Ragan DuBoseS.C. Area Health Education Consortium More than 200 physicians from across South Carolina increased their bioterrorism awareness through a program offered by the S. C. Area Health Education Consortium (SC AHEC). The three R’s: recognition, response and reporting is a convenient self-study course available on DVD that gives busy health care professionals the opportunity to acquaint themselves with recognizing, responding and reporting a possible bioterrorism attack while simultaneously earning Continuing Medical Education credits (CME) at their convenience. The DVD is also used as an educational in-service tool for departments or groups who wish to view the material simultaneously. After completing this self-paced course, participants can describe the role of health care providers in a community health emergency, recognize how a natural epidemic and an intentional epidemic are similar and different, and list the critical first steps to take when an epidemic is suspected. Depending on the participant’s professional discipline, they can earn CME or ANA credit. This program is made possible by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration.
