PA class raises money for treatment foundationThe Physician Assistant Class of 2006 hosted its annual golf tournament on Feb. 5 to benefit the Hemangioma Treatment Foundation.“We started the foundation because, while we have been helping children in need for fifteen years, they need more help than we can provide by ourselves,” said Marcelo Hochman, M.D., founder. The Hemangioma Treatment Foundation’s mission is to provide treatment to children who are affected by hemangiomas and other vascular birthmarks. This is an international organization which helps children who can either not afford the treatments or do not have access to treatment in their communities. Under the direction of Hochman the foundation treated several hundred patients from the United States, Costa Rica, Peru, Russia, Mexico, Cypress, Turkey, and Hong Kong. Through donations from local and national organizations the PA class of 2006 raised more than $6,000 which will benefit the Hemangioma Treatment Foundation and enable the Class of 2006 to be represented at the Annual PA Conference in Orlando in May. This event was the second charitable fund raiser held by the class of 2006. In October, they raised more than $3,000 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society
by participating in the Light the Night Walk.
