UMA honors employees with quarterly award

University Medical Associates (UMA) employees are regularly nominated by patients, employees, and co-workers for the medical center's Area Applause program for their excellence and meritous acts.

Each quarter, a UMA committee selects winners from Area Applause award entries. That person receives a 14K gold-filled Medical University College of Medicine pin, framed Applause award document, $50 gift certificate and a cake to share with co-workers.

The quarterly award recipients are Michelle Clontz, financial counselor, HCC; Karen Turner, office coordinator, UFM; and Larissa Moore, senior analyst, APP Support,  IDX systems.

  • Clontz  was nominated for the award by a wife of a patient as well as co-workers. The nomination from the patient's wife reads in part: “Michelle went beyond doing her job. She made it seem as if we were great old friends and that she cared personally how we fared and for the outcome of my husband's illness.
  • Turner was nominated by her coworkers. They stated: “Karen took charge during a difficult period of transfer to the IDX system. She was always on top of identifying and solving problems; helping the front desk staff with new software; reassuring patients and physicians. Months later, we could see how hard Karen worked in order to run this scheduling system as smooth as possible.”
  • Moore was nominated by other MUSC employees. Some of the comments from the nominations included: “Larissa is such a dedicated employee and does her job extremely well. She never lets a question go unanswered and will find the answer or point you in the right direction.” Another nomination read: “Her knowledge of IDX and helpful attitude make the IDX conversion so much smoother.”
