Wheels of FAITH in need of volunteer drivers, coordinatorsWheels of FAITH is seeking volunteer drivers to transport individuals to medical appointments.Wheels of FAITH (Focused Alternative Interfaith Transportation for Health) is a group of community and faith-based organizations and concerned individuals who work to find a way to assist the many residents of Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties with their transportation needs. Many children and seniors are unable to maintain a health and independent life because they are unable to access transportation for their health care needs. Volunteer drivers would provide transportation using their own vehicles, choose the days, times and areas they wish to serve, receive supplemental liability insurance at no cost to them, and receive training and a background check at no expense to themselves. Wheels of FAITH is also seeking volunteer coordinators to receive calls for transportation from Trident United Ways's 211 Hotline operators. A volunteer coordinator would respond to 211's operator in a timely fashion, contact a volunteer driver meeting the needs of the caller, coordinate and confirm the transportation arrangements, assist volunteer drivers with maintaining records for each transport and recruit more volunteer drivers. For information, call Sally Rosenlieb at the Center for Child Advocacy for MUSC Children's Hospital at 534-0036 or e-mail rosenlis@musc.edu. Friday, May 13, 2005
