Teresa D. Stanley, a P-2 student in the College of Pharmacy, was
selected to receive the United States Public Health Service Excellence
in Public Health Pharmacy Practice Award for 2005. LCDR Michael Shiber,
on behalf of the Assistant Surgeon General RADM Richard S. Walling,
presented the award April 27.
Recipients of this award are selected from nominations submitted by
colleges of pharmacy across the country. Ron Nickel, Ph.D., nominated
Stanley based on her work with the interdisciplinary public health
interest group at MUSC as well as her efforts in initiating a
‘non-soda’ day for MUSC this academic year.
“As a public health person myself, I am very proud of this recognition
for Ms. Stanley,” said MUSC President Ray Greenberg, M.D., Ph.D. “This
is a great honor and not only reflects well on her, but on the whole
university.”
The award recognizes students who demonstrated a commitment to public
health and public health practice. It consists of a certificate plaque,
a letter signed by the assistant surgeon general, and a copy of the
book ‘Plaques and Politics: the Story of the United States Public
Health Service’ co-authored by C. Everett Koop.
