Nursing Partnerships ensures magnet level care

A model of nursing care delivery, Nursing Partnerships ensures individualized care, continuity and consistency, and accountability and collaboration with other professionals on the health care team. The model enables promotion and career advancement for bedside nursing.

Any hospital pursuing Magnet status, including the MUSC Medical Center, desires a model of nursing care delivery that:
  • Provides quality patient centered care
  • Ensures the nurse is at the center of planning care
  • Has consistent nursing roles and expectations
  • Provides a coordinated and consistent approach to care
  • Strengthens nursing’s position in the organization
  • Fosters an environment which will attract & retain nurses
In order to be considered magnet-level nursing care delivery, the model and those who practice it must follow certain ground rules. The model must be integrated with the nursing process and achieve excellence in delegation, documentation, communication, continuity of care, standardization, uniqueness, values education, and audits. It must also be staff-driven and provide support and recognition for staff.

The key elements of Nursing Partnerships are the five C’s: coordination, collaboration, consistency, communication and commitment to one another.

Key performance indicators for the model are:
q  National Research Corporation Patient Satisfaction surveys
q  Pre and Post Model Surveys
q  Occurrence Reporting
q  Nursing Recruitment Rates
q  Nursing Retention Rates
q  Cost per Unit of Service
q  Financial Impact
q  Length of Stay
q  Organizational Assessment Survey.
