Appointment of Dr.
Jenrette announced
June 2005
On behalf of the MUSC College of Medicine, I am very pleased to
announce the appointment of Dr. Joseph Jenrette as chairman of the
Department of Radiation Oncology.
Dr. Jenrette
is a highly respected MUSC alumnus whose career with the university
spans more than three decades. During those years, his outstanding
service was instrumental in the development of the department as well
as the medical center’s acquisition of many new radiation therapy
technologies used in the treatment of cancer. He is not only an
excellent academician and clinician, he demonstrated his administrative
abilities on two separate occasions serving as the department’s interim
chairman. He fostered close relationships with radiation oncologists
and other physicians throughout the state, and led development of
collaborative facilities between the Hollings Cancer Center with
Georgetown and East Cooper hospitals.
Throughout his tenure, his dedication to MUSC has gone well beyond
typical faculty responsibilities. He chaired the university’s cancer
committee since 1983, and he served in a variety of leadership
positions that helped launch the Hollings Cancer Center and continue to
build its clinical, research and academic reputation. He provides
editorial services to some of the leading professional journals in his
field, and his research teams contributed more than 100 publications
and invited presentations on research topics ranging from cutting-edge
clinical techniques to guidelines for standard practices. He has
received numerous awards for clinical and academic excellence,
including repeated listings in “The Best Doctors in America.”
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Jenrette on his challenging new
appointment.
