Training courses offered by MUSC Human Resources Management

The following training courses are offered by the MUSC University Human Resources Management:

Customer Services and Telephone Techniques
This class covers conducting business over the telephone, customer service and handling unhappy customers, making productive and effective telephone calls, and listening skills.
 
This halfday course, held from 1 to 4:30 p.m., will also provide comprehensive training on telephone etiquette and the MUSC telephone system—using listening skills and improving customer service through the correct usage of the telephone system. Included will be the appropriate way to place and transfer calls, make efficient conference calls, use Audix to your advantage, features of the MUSC telephone system and more. Classes are held on Sept. 20, Oct. 11 and Nov. 15 in Room 641 of the Strom Thurmond building .

Get Prepared for Retirement
Have you thought of retirement? Do you have enough money saved to supplement your retirement income? Do you know how much replacement income to expect from the South Carolina Retirement System or the Optional Retirement Program? Hear what the experts have to say. Representatives from the S.C. Retirement System, AIG VALIC, CitiStreet, ING Aetna, TIAA/CREF, S.C. Employee Insurance Program, S.C. Deferred Compensation, Social Security Administration and a financial advisor will be available to answer these and other questions regarding retirement.
 
The retirement classes will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 25, Aug. 26 and Nov. 18 in Room 803 of Harbor Office Tower.

Retired and Ready
This workshop will assist in making informed decision in preparations for retirement. Speakers will communicate retirement, insurance, financial and social security Medicare information. The workshop is for employees who have completed or are in the process of completing retirement paperwork.
 
The workshop is held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 in Room 803 of Harborview Office Tower.

SmartStream Classes

SmartStream Financials Inquiry
This online tutorial is designed to provide all MUSC employees with an understanding of MUSC’s User Defined Accounting Key (UDAK) and its significance in their daily activities. Subjects covered include: understanding the benefits of the UDAK; elements of the UDAK; and how the UDAK works. There is no charge for the SmartStream courses.
 
The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 20 in Room 704 Harborview Office Tower. Prerequisites are Understanding of the UDAK and the Intro to SS tutorial.   

Access 97 for SmartStream Financials 
This instructor led course will teach individuals how to create queries and reports based on the SmartStream financial tables using Access97. Subjects covered include: attaching to the SmartStream tables; creating basic queries using sort order and criteria.; using multiple criteria and calculated fields; exporting query results to Excel; creating parameter queries;  creating reports using the Report Wizard; and modifying reports in the design view.
 
The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 22 and Aug. 24 in Room 704 Harborview Office Tower. Prerequisites include: Intro to SS tutorial and good working knowledge of SmartStream.
