Meet...Kathy
Name: Kathy McKay.
Department:
University Surplus.
How long at MUSC:16 years.
Favorite type of music:
Classical.
Hobbies, activities in
your free time: I teach piano and instrumental music.
Fondest memory: The day that
Sean Monahan, one of my piano students, performed as a soloist at
Piccolo Spoleto.
Personality trait that you admire in
others: Intelligence.
Mentor or person you admire the most:
John Brubaker (now retired from Pharmacology) He taught us to learn
from the customers we serve. Mr. Brubaker always emphasized the
importance of maintaining the highest standards in the workplace.
Records, accountability and employee safety made a big difference to
him. He was influential in maintaining a positive work ethic.
Most rewarding thing about your job:
The warehouse is composed of several different departments: University
Surplus, University Press, Records, and Warehouse Operations and
Storage. A lot of physical labor is done here, and sometimes this
requires departments to help one another. It amazes me how
knowledgeable these men are and how much skill it takes to handle large
equipment. I think that the combined effort of all these departments
working together makes MUSC Service Center one of the finest operations
at MUSC.
Word of advice: Come and shop at
Surplus and save your university department money.
