Magnet champions rally for excellence
In an effort to remind and re-energize magnet champions in their roles
as facilitators of the magnet process within their individual units,
the Magnet Steering Committee hosted a Magnet Champion Quarterly
Assembly on July 25. The assembly stressed how the mission and values
of MUHA lead staff on the Magnet journey of excellence.
Magnet champions
perform a comic skit to demonstrate team building.
With special assembly speakers David McNair of the McNair training
sessions and Karen Stanley, MUSC psychiatry liaison consultant, magnet
champions participated in vignettes on team building with a lot of
competition built in to demonstrate working together. One example asked
one person in a group to sing a solo in order to gain the maximum
points offered to the team, at the expense of potential embarrassment
for him.
Stanley provided an introduction on the topic of lateral violence in
the workplace and demonstrated with examples of characteristics that
allow violence to occur and those behaviors which can end
it.
Other communication issues were visited as well, including raising the
level of professionalism by focusing on the needs of the people one
serves and recognizing the nature of the work in health care is
uncertain.
Magnet champions
participate in an exercise during McNair's presentation.
Charged with a renewed energy and ready to push forward on the Magnet
journey of excellence, the group of magnet champions left the assembly
celebrating themselves and committed to honoring their colleagues with
public praise and positive action.
The next Magnet Champion Quarterly Assembly is scheduled from 8:30 a.m.
to noon, Oct. 3. in the Harper Student Center (Wellness) Auditorium.
