Kohl's donates funds for van for
medically fragile children's program
Kohl’s Cares for Kids donated $21,398 for the purchase of a van
equipped to transport special needs children in the Medically Fragile
Children’s Program.
The Medically Fragile Children’s Program is a partnership among the
Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital, the
Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Social
Services. It provides coordinated health care for children in foster
care with chronic illnesses and disabilities.
Children in the program have their multitude of health care needs
attended to in one facility. This may include physical therapy,
occupational therapy, speech therapy, psychological services, social
work support, primary medical care, nursing care, nutritional
assessment, medication and supplies.
“We are grateful to Kohl’s for their generous donation,” said John
Sanders, administrator of the MUSC Children’s Hospital. “The van will
provide an important service to some of the neediest children in our
community and will be a tremendous asset to our hospital.”

Ritter, and Helena Foy.
In addition to transporting children in the Medically Fragile
Children’s Program, the van will also transport staff to health fairs
and schools throughout the tri-county area, helping the Children’s
Hospital in its efforts to reach more children and their families.
The donation was announced Aug. 15 at the grand opening ceremony for
the Medically Fragile Children’s Program, held at the program’s
facility in North Charleston.
“Kohl’s introduced the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program to promote
children’s health and educational opportunities, and is committed to
playing an active role in the communities we serve,” said Julie
Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s Department
Stores. “We’re proud of the partnerships we’ve created with
children’s hospitals across the country, and are excited to join the
MUSC Children’s Hospital in this endeavor.”
Kohl’s commitment to the MUSC Children’s Hospital was made possible
through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program, which raises funds for
children’s hospitals through the sale of seasonal gift items. Net
profits from the sales go to children’s hospitals in the market areas
served by Kohl’s. Kohl’s community outreach also includes Kohl’s Kids
Who Care, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising
gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an
associate program to encourage volunteerism.
Based in Menomonee Falls, Wis., Kohl’s is a family-focused,
value-oriented specialty department store offering moderately priced
national, exclusive and private brand apparel, shoes, accessories and
home products. Kohl’s operates 670 stores in 40 states. For a list of
