university
by
Alexander C. Whitley
MUSC
Student Government Association
On behalf of the MUSC Student Government Association (SGA), it is my
pleasure to welcome you to MUSC. I am sure you all are excited to spend
endless nights studying and countless hours listening to some of the
most exciting lectures that you will experience, but don't be fooled by
all of the undergrad rumors, you will have time to enjoy the great city
of Charleston and all of the activities the SGA offers.
The SGA is devoted to enhancing your student life while at MUSC as the
faculty and administration will spend limitless hours enhancing your
educational experience here. And yes, you will need a little... let's
not kid ourselves... a lot of rest and relaxation and it is part of the
SGA's mission to provide just that. From cultural experiences at the
St. Luke's Concert Series, fun in the happy hours, Oktoberfest, the
Halloween Horror Cruise, the Oyster Roast, the Wine tasting, and Edisto
canoe trips to the largest event of the year during the Alhambra
celebration at Stoney Field. We also provide an extensive six-sport
intramural program and a Student Academic Series enjoyed by all.
In addition to all the outside activities, SGA provides both a forum as
well as a unified voice that interacts intimately with the
administration to address student concerns. The SGA is a 45-member body
encompassing elected representatives from all six colleges and two
universitywide student organizations on campus.
I encourage each of you to take an active role in guiding your MUSC
experience in a positive direction and we would love to have your
participation in the SGA or your ideas through your class
representatives by e-mailing sga@musc.edu.
These are exciting times at MUSC and it's your prerogative to make it
better for yourself and those that will follow.
Please do not sit idly by and let decisions be made without your input.
I assure you there is enough time in your individual schedules to
become involved in SGA. If you have any questions about getting
involved please e-mail me. As your SGA president I look forward to
hearing your suggestions and making your voices heard at the university
level.
