Currents
To
Medical Center Employees:
All Medical Center employees will be asked to take part in an employee
satisfaction survey in the very near future. The last survey was
conducted several years ago and we are overdue in soliciting input from
everyone. We will not make the mistake made with the last survey by
having too many questions.
The survey will be issued electronically. Those who do not have direct
access to a computer can complete the survey in the Computer Lab
located in MUH room 271 or can obtain a hard copy of the survey from
the Human Resources office. Specific instructions regarding completion
of the survey will be issued soon.
The survey will be conducted by The McNair Group (TMG), an independent
firm which specializes in customer service and leadership development
training. TMG has been working with the Medical Center since the
Spring of 2002. The survey responses will be confidential and no one
will see individual responses other than TMG.
Medical Center employees’ cooperation in completing the survey will be
greatly appreciated. We will use the survey results to focus on our
strengths and weaknesses. The survey findings will help us develop a
game plan for work environment improvements and for “hardwiring
excellence.”

Survey
wants honest responses to questions
During the month of August, MUSC Medical Center is conducting an
employee survey, and needs your help. Through your participation in the
survey and honest answers, the Medical Center can assess its strengths
and weaknesses and take steps to improve. On the journey to higher
levels of excellence —your input is essential. Let your concerns,
your ideas, and certainly your praise be known.
To help in this important project, an independent consulting firm, The
McNair Group (TMG), will conduct a web-based survey that asks your
opinions. All survey information will be 100 percent
confidential. No one other than The McNair Group will see any
individual survey responses. Also, this survey is much shorter
and easier to complete than earlier employee surveys. Please take a few
minutes to provide your input.
The process for the survey includes:
- If you have an musc.edu (groupwise) e-mail address, you
will receive an e-mail with a link to the Web site for the
survey. (The address in the “from” column will be
tmgsurvey@knology.net, and the subject line will be “MUSC Medical
Center Employee Survey—Response Requested”).
- If you do not have an e-mail address or access to a
computer, you may complete the survey in the Computer Lab located in
Room 271 (Main Hospital) during the month of August as follows:
Monday (Noon to 2 p.m., Aug. 8, 15, 22); Wednesday (3 to 5 p.m., Aug.
10, 17, 24); Friday (6 to 8 a.m., Aug. 12, 19, 26)
- Anyone who is unable to access the Web site or was hired
after July 11 may obtain a hard copy of the survey from Helena Bastian
of the HR Department (Rutledge Tower Annex Room 101). Hard copy
surveys will be available beginning Aug. 5.
- The survey Web site will close Aug. 26.

is coordinated.
Hospital construction began Feb. 14 and to date more than 1,700 pilings
have been driven. Builders began pouring pile caps in April, and steel
erection began June 20. He said to expect by mid-September the west end
of Doughty Street will be closed and the entire site will be under
control. They began pouring concrete decks July 29.
Next steps include:
- Continue with the equipment planning and review process
(including room by room checklists and evaluation)
- Prepare for limited key room mock-up reviews with users
- Begin operational planning process to bring building online
- Continue with development of backfill plan for space
vacated in the existing hospital
- Secure financing for parking structure and begin
construction.
Updates on hospital construction can be found on the replacement
