Meet...Susana
Name: Susana Leonor
Comte-Walters.
Department:
Cell and Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental
Therapeutics.
How long at MUSC: 3 years.
Where you were born: Buenos
Aires, Argentina.
Family: Husband, Fred; Pets,
Heidi (English Springer Spaniel) and Wiggy (our very talkative cat).
Least favorite chore: By all
means, ironing.
Favorite dish: Empanadas
salteñas (spicy beef turnovers from the Salta region of
Argentina).
Fondest Hispanic tradition observed in
your home: Christmas Eve Dinner and Vigil. It is traditional in
Argentina to get together with family and friends on Christmas Eve,
have dinner (in many cases, outdoors, since Christmas in Argentina is
celebrated in the summer), and wait for midnight to celebrate the birth
of Christ. My husband and I have kept this tradition with friends in
the Charleston area.
Bad habit: I eat too much
chocolate.
Pet peeve: To wait in line or
latecomers.
Your idea of a perfect vacation:
At the beach in Edisto Island or at the beach in Pinamar (on the South
Atlantic Coast of Argentina).
Most rewarding thing about your job:
At the Mass Spectrometry Core Laboratory where I work, we apply
state-of-the-art technology for protein identification and quantitation
to biological samples. Keeping up with new application software and
instrumentation, and being able to provide a service that may lead to
further understanding of a disease is both challenging and rewarding.
Three things that mean a lot to you:
Family, faith, and freedom.
