Georgetown Wal-Mart raises money for hospital

The MUSC Children’s Hospital, a member of Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, benefited from a golf tournament held by the Georgetown Wal-Mart Supercenter store. The event raised more than $6,800, which will all come to MUSC Children’s Hospital.

The tournament, held at Wedgefield Plantation, had 81 participants. The tournament began at 9 a.m. and ended with a barbecue feast provided by Double D’s BBQ and Catering. Wal-Mart associates were on hand to provide refreshments to the golfers and give out prizes. The tournament would not have been such a success if it had not been for Kelly Howard, a Georgetown Wal-Mart Supercenter Associate, who coordinated the benefit along with other Georgetown Wal-Mart Associates.

“The Georgetown Wal-Mart has been an amazing partner for MUSC Children’s Hospital,” said Barbara Rivers, director of development, MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund. “The enthusiasm of associates to raise money for the children treated at MUSC Children’s Hospital is truly inspiring. We could not do what we do for children without the support of our friends at Wal-Mart.”

Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club are national Children’s Miracle Network sponsors. Since 2000, Wal-Mart Supercenter in Georgetown has raised more than $75,000 for MUSC Children’s Hospital. Last year, more than $100,450 was raised in the greater Charleston area by Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club associates and customers for MUSC Children’s Hospital. During the last 18 years, Wal-Mart Inc., has raised more than $300 million for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals across the nation.
