MUSC 12-week boot camp begins Sept. 12

by Heather Woolwine

For employees and staff looking for a challenging work-out experience, MUSC Boot Camp is back and ready to take some names.

Beginning Sept. 12 at the Harper Student Center, the 12-week program requires participants to report to boot camp at 6 a.m., ready to push and work their bodies like never before. Unlike many programs that claim high levels of intensity, MUSC Boot Camp employs two Marine drill instructors with an ingrained knowledge of pushing people to achieve more in physical fitness then they might have ever imagined. Additional fitness trainers will also be on hand.

With the exception of a small reprieve during the Thanksgiving holiday, participants will increase their fitness level and train in all components of fitness including cardiovascular, strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, and agility. All fitness levels are welcome and individuals are encouraged to work out based on their individual potential.

Some days will include off-campus training at an obstacle course, stadium, and track workouts. One day- a-week, boot camp participants will walk or run over the new Arthur Ravenel Bridge. Everyone will begin the program as a private and can advance to lance corporal, corporal, and then sergeant by the camp’s end.

Every few weeks throughout the program, prizes will be given to participants who attend 60 percent of the workouts.  Those who achieve perfect attendance will receive a special gift at the end of the program, and will be included in the wall of fame plaque in the Wellness Center.
