Nursing doctoral student receives
national honors
Aetna Corporation, in conjunction with the National Coalition of Ethnic
Minority Nurse Associations (NCEMNA), has named College of Nursing
doctoral student Sarah A. Johnson as an Aetna Scholar during the annual
convention of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) in Illinois.
This award is funded by a partnership grant between Aetna Inc. and
NCEMNA. It is geared toward augmenting national collegiate academic
programs, increasing the number of ethnic minority nurse scientists,
and socializing nurse scientists into the health care research agenda
at the federal level. Johnson also received a separate academic
scholarship award at the convention from both Aetna Corporation and
NBNA, for her nursing leadership and commitment to community service in
Charleston.
Johnson was also awarded the Mary Elizabeth Carnegie and Edith
Pritchard awards from Nurses Educational Funds Inc. (NEF) for her
academic achievement and leadership in qualitative historical research
in nursing and the health sciences.
