As Neonatal Intensive Care Unit’s Drew Graham, R.N., walked into the
Children’s Hospital conference room overlooking the Atrium, he thought
someone had let a well-hidden cat out of the proverbial bag. “I just
celebrated my 50th birthday last week (Oct. 16-22) and thought, ‘Man!
They got me.’”
Registered nurse
Megan Anderson, NNICU, reads Drew Graham's nomination as he looks on.
Graham, a NNICU nurse, is this quarter's Children's Hospital Customer
Service Shining Star.
The cake at the center of the table might have made for a sweet
birthday celebration, but Graham’s coworkers, colleagues and admirers
were gathered for a different reason. He is the Children’s Hospital’s
Quarterly Customer Service Shining Star for this quarter.
Sponsored by the MUSC Excellence Women and Children’s Patient
Satisfaction Team, each quarter’s winner is selected to represent one
of the four Medical Authority values of respect, accountability,
adaptability or excellence. Graham, a member of the Children’s Hospital
family for more than four years, was honored for exemplifying the value
of respect.
Colleague Megan Anderson, R.N., NNICU, described Graham as kind and
respectful, and said that the NNICU staff nominated him for the award.
Graham’s nomination said, “Drew Graham… is a shining star, because he
is always courteous to his coworkers and treats patients with a caring
a respectful attitude. He listens to everyone’s concerns while
maintaining confidentiality of his patients and peers.”
The nomination further mentioned Graham’s great sensitivity to the
needs of his patients and their families, as well as his ease at making
families feel important and comfortable with a child’s care in the
NNICU. “Drew is a joy to work with and his calm, caring attitude make a
12-hour shift very enjoyable for everyone around him,” the nomination
concluded.
Visibly moved by the honor and the outpouring of gratitude from his
friends, colleagues, and administration, Graham said, “It’s such an
honor to work with all of you. Thank you so much for this recognition.”
Shining Star winners receive a gold pass to the Charleston County Park
and Recreation Commission’s area locations; a gift certificate to a
local restaurant, a certificate of appreciation, and a large cake to
share with coworkers.
