Cultural
Etiquette: Communication in the Workplace

Discrimination claims based on age, race, ethnicity, disability and
sexual harassment are a major concern of MUSC, as well as the nation.
The Office of Affirmative Action/EEO is offering training relative to
these issues. This interactive program also deals with the topics of
communication, harassment, and cultural competency in the work place
and gives participants the opportunity to apply knowledge with the
relation
to hands-on case studies.

Performance Management Systems Workshop (EPMS)

Do you want to know how to properly use the EPMS form? Are your tired
of wondering who to call for information on EPMS? In this seminar,
participants will learn how to use the EPMS to improve work performance

Family
and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for University Employees

How do I pay my employees when they are on FMLA leave? Do you have an
employee out of work due to the birth of a baby? Do you have an
employee whose mother or father is in the hospital and wants to be
there with them? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you
probably should know more about the FMLA.

The Right Person

Selecting the right person for the job is the beginning of a productive
employment relationship. This course provides the hiring official with
essential building blocks for a good hiring decision. The objective of
the course is to provide the hiring official with an overview of legal
responsibilities, a demonstration of the behavioral interview
technique, and a systematic approach for assessing applicant
information. Upon completion of this program, you will be able to:
identify the applicant whose qualifications best match your needs,
develop interview questions to yield relevant information, and use all
of the information gathered to determine the right person for your job.

Buying Workshop

The Homeownership Resource Center, in collaboration with MUSC Human
Resources will sponsor a free first-time homebuyer workshop. A
continental breakfast, lunch and all materials will be provided. Topics
covered will include how to obtain down payment subsidies up to $50,000
and how to qualify for interest rates as low as 4 percent offered only
to first time homebuyers. Professionals related to the purchase of a
home such as a realtor, lender, home inspector and closing attorney
will be present as guest speakers to answer all questions regarding
homeownership.

Use the University’s Purchasing Card

Are you using the university’s purchasing card correctly? Discover
everything you need to know to make purchases with the MUSC University
Purchasing Card. This seminar covers information about the card such
as: procedure to purchase an item; what can and can’t be purchased;
special restrictions for grant purchases; exceptions to the policy;
split transactions; refunds and/or returns; and disputes and billing
errors.

Retirement Program (ORP) Seminar

Open Enrollment for employees participating in the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) continues through March 1. The seminars will assist with
enrollment and other significant retirement information. The speakers
will be representatives from AIG VALIC, CitiStreet, Hartford,
TIAA/CREF, The Employee Insurance Program and the South Carolina
Deferred Compensation Program.

This workshop will assist you in making informed decisions as you
prepare to transition into retirement. Speakers from the State Office
of Insurance Services, South Carolina Retirement System, AIG VALIC,
CitiStreet, ING Aetna, TIAA/CREF and the Social Security Administration
along with financial consultants will communicate retirement,
insurance, financial and social security Medicare information. This
workshop is for employees who have completed or in the process of
completing retirement paperwork.
Violence
in the Workplace
9 - 11 a.m., May 24, Room
803 Harborview Office Tower. Instructor: Lt. Oneida Banks.
The objective of this training is to develop and support a work
environment, which will prevent and effectively respond to violent
situations in the workplace. In order to increase employee
understanding of work place violence, these areas will be discussed,
defining workplace violence, identifying and recognizing actual and
potential violent situations, response and intervention and follow-up
to a violent situation.
