Earth Day, April 22, is the day set aside each year to celebrate the
earth and raise awareness of how the world can be made a better place
through conservation, preservation, and environmental sensibility.
The Charleston area isn’t short on activities in April to celebrate the
environment and promote sustainability in the community.
On campus, support Earth Day by recycling office paper and aluminum
cans and by turning off lights every time you leave your office
or any room that is unoccupied, like a lunch or conference room.
The College of Charleston will sponsor, “Alliance for Planet Earth,”
from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 21 at the College of Charleston's Maybank
Breezeway.
The Earth Day festival will include a variety of community
organizations, student groups, vegetarian food samples, and
entertainment aimed at increasing environmental awareness throughout
the college community.
The Charleston County Earth Day Festival will beheld from 11 a.m. to 3
p.m., April 22 at Park Circle, North Charleston.
The festival will feature a variety of educational exhibits,
entertainment, and activities for kids, and will host the Green Beret
Sport Parachute Team. The festival is a way to increase awareness about
preserving and protecting the environment in the Lowcountry, while also
celebrating people who have made a difference in the communities.
The Tour de Tomato Bicycle Ride, Earth Fare, and Charleston Moves will
celebrate Earth Day with a bicycle ride from Earth Fare’s South
Windemere store to its Mount Pleasant store. The bicycle ride will
begin at 10 a.m. April 30.
The ride is open to all levels and includes lunch at the Mount Pleasant
location. Proceeds benefit Charleston Moves’s work to make the
Lowcountry a more bicycle, pedestrian and transit friendly community.
Registration is online at http://www.active.com.
