Employees receive quarterly AREA
awards
Each
quarter, Ambulatory Care Services recognizes outstanding employees
who demonstrate the organization’s values of accountability, respect,
excellence and adaptability (AREA). Staff members who have received an
Applause for Caring card during the quarter are automatically eligible
for the AREA Award.
First quarter AREA Award recipients are: Lisa V. Comp, Point of
Services Collections supervisor; Lisa A. Jackson, Hollings Cancer
Center financial counselor, ; Sharon D. Mazyck, Clinic Business
Operations manager; and Ted A. Meyer, M.D., Ph.D., Otolaryngology.
Lisa Comp receives
her certificate after recognition as a quarterly award winner.
Comp was nominated by two employees. Her nominations stated
in part: “Lisa continues to amaze us with her reports and creativity.
She has done an excellent job with the UMA collections reports, waiver
report, precertification database, and many others. She always has a
positive attitude and an incredible work ethic. In many ways, we could
not accomplish the things we do without her dedication, commitment and
skill. She is a tremendous asset to our department and UMA.”
Lisa Jackson,
holding certificate, was nominated by a patient, a patient's mother and
an employee for the award.
Jackson was nominated by a patient, a patient’s mother and
an employee. “She is very professional and kind towards me. She is very
compassionate and has gone the extra mile. She has a great personality
and is a joy to be around. Lisa has met our emotional and financial
needs. She goes beyond the job description not once but at each visit.
She has remained positive throughout this ordeal of paperwork. She is
truly an asset to the staff at MUSC and should be recognized for the
outstanding contribution to the well being of her patients.”
Sharon Mazyck,
center, is surrounded by coworkers when presented with her framed
certificate.
Mazyck was nominated by two employees. Her nominations
included the following: “Sharon continues to exceed our department’s
expectations in the way of customer service. She, and her incredible
team, have implemented many initiatives with regard to improving Press
Ganey scores and overall patient satisfaction. She worked to get all
staff “meeting and greeting” patients at the registration desk. She has
been intensely involved with the service excellence proposal and she
has personally begun a week-long orientation for her new employees that
gets them involved with scheduling, central registration, central
precertification, clinical staff and leadership. She has faced many
unique challenges during the past few months in her new role and
continues to do an outstanding job.”
Dr. Ted Meyer
receives his framed certificate after being nominated by a patient's
daughter.
Meyer was nominated by a patient’s daughter. The nomination
read in part: “Recently my father who lives in Michigan was diagnosed
with an acoustic neuroma. His family practice physician set him up with
a specialist appointment at the University of Michigan several weeks
out and told him he knew very little about the condition and in the
mean time to look on the Internet for information. The Internet proved
frightening and confusing, so because I work at MUSC, I called the ENT
office to ask what types of treatments were offered at MUSC. Within
hours I received an e-mail from Dr. Meyer with his phone number
asking me to call him. He took the time to explain the condition
and all possible treatment options with me, which when relayed to my
father put his mind a little more at ease. That's hard to do when
dealing with brain surgery. In fact, we were so impressed with Dr.
Meyer and his staff that my father decided to have the surgery at MUSC.
The surgery and follow-up went extremely well, and my father continues
to be so impressed with Dr. Meyer and his staff that he will continue
to schedule his follow-up appointments at MUSC.”
The Ambulatory Care Prize Patrol surprised each individual in his/her
practice setting. Each recipient received an AREA Award lapel pin, a
framed certificate, a $50 gift card and a cake to share with coworkers.
