Blood bank calls for emergency
donations
The
American Red Cross has begun to ration blood to hospitals due to a
blood shortage throughout South Carolina and the nation.
The shortage results from a combination of recent flooding in the
American Northeast, the July 4 holiday, and summer vacation. South
Carolina shipped blood to the Northeast, which lost 3,000 units,
further depleting its own supply.
Everyone who gives blood by July 15 will receive a vintage ball cap and
a chance to win two Delta Air Lines international tickets from the
American Red Cross.
To help return the blood supply to safe levels, schedule an appointment
with Health Connections at MUSC, 792-0219, or visit http://www.givelife.org. The
sponsor code is MUSC.
