New specialty office opens in N.
Charleston
MUSC
specialists are among the best in the country, and now most people can
benefit from their expertise without ever entering the Charleston city
limits.
Medical office
assistants Michele Owens, right, and Jennifer Skelton read the flowcast
system at the new MUSC Specialty Care North facility that opened in
North Charleston Jan. 16.
With the opening of a new office in North Charleston, patients can
access the latest technologies and quality patient care at five area
locations, including North Charleston, Goose Creek, Mount Pleasant,
James Island, and West Ashley. The new location at University Place,
8992 University Blvd., in North Charleston offers these specialties:
ENT (ear, nose and throat), cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology,
gastroenterology, maternal-fetal medicine, pulmonary disorders,
radiology, rheumatology, speech pathology, and vascular surgery.
Behavioral health services in the North Area are housed in a different
location.

technologist Michael Gyampoh observes an image on an echocardiogram.
Gyampoh can perform all ultrasound studies on the ultrasound machine.
The clinic will host a community open house Feb. 24.
“We receive more than 200 referrals a week from those local primary
care physicians now (in North Charleston) and those patients make the
long drive to downtown Charleston,” said Bruce Quinlan, MUSC University
Medical Associates (UMA) CEO. “We know, however, that patients
prefer to receive even specialty services in their local community so
we are at risk of losing a majority of these referrals if we do not
plan for and put into operation multi-specialty clinics that are more
conducive to meeting our patients overall needs… We are simply there to
meet the specialty care needs of those patients, and the primary care
physicians who need more specialists to provide care locally to their
patients.”
Locations are also available in Beaufort, Georgetown and throughout the
state. Call 792-1414 or visit http://www.MUSCHealth.com/specialtycare
for more information.

Sherry Hawley sets up a rhinoscope for rhinoscopy in one of the new ENT
(ear, nose and throat) rooms at the MUSC Specialty Care North facility.
“One of MUSC’s key missions is the provision of state of the art
medical care to all our patients,” said UMA President J.R. Feussner,
M.D. “This involves not just MUSC’s traditional best quality medical
care, but also enhancements in service and convenience for our patients
and for the physicians who refer their patients to us; that is what
motivates us as we expand the specialized medical care we deliver to
the communities where our patients live.”
