F&A announces Employees of the
Month
The University’s Finance & Administration division celebrated
September Employees of the Month Oct. 17. The Employees of the Month
were selected by the Rewards & Recognition Committee from a list of
all F&A Applause Award nominations for September.
Each month, F&A honors employees from the Engineering &
Facilities, Finance, and Operations departments who were nominated for
Applause awards for their commitment to excellent service.
Jeffrey Waite, Engineering &
Facilities/Lock Shop
Waite was selected for his friendly and helpful attitude during times
of difficulty. Specifically, when there were mechanical problems with a
building elevator, the nominator’s office had to be moved to another
space with very little advance notice. Despite the high volume of work
pending in the Lock Shop, Waite was extremely responsive and helpful in
getting everything taken care of promptly and actively worked to
resolve issues as they occurred. Considering that the relocation
involved 19 people moving into 13 offices across two buildings, with
access needed to an additional five locked spaces beyond the personal
offices, it was no minor task. Waite’s attitude was exemplary.
Peggy Cunningham,
Finance/Accounts Payable
Cunningham was selected because she voluntarily took on a project that
was outside her regular responsibilities. Specifically, she received a
fax with an issue. After asking around to find out who had been dealing
with the issue and not being able to identify that person, she
contacted the vendor herself. After much follow through, she took care
of the issue—to the department’s, vendor’s and university’s
satisfaction. This example of going above and beyond demonstrates
Cunningham’s commitment to excellent service.
Janet Johnson and George Wilds,
Operations/Public Safety
For the first time, the Employee of the Month went to two staff
members. A summary of the nomination follows: On Sept. 4 units
were dispatched to G-Lot for a woman who needed assistance. Public
Safety officers Johnson and Wilds were the first on the scene. Both
officers listened intently to the woman and discovered that not only
was she in need of medical, and possibly psychological treatment, but
more importantly, she needed someone who would listen to her. It was
also discovered during their investigation that alcohol may have been a
contributing factor for her behavior; because of this, Wilds was able
to retrieve the female’s keys and parked her car safely in G-Lot so she
would not be a threat to herself or others. Johnson, who stayed with
the woman throughout the entire ordeal, not only made sure she was
treated by a doctor, but also requested that a victim’s advocate be
present. Both officers displayed a high degree of compassion and
concern.
Applause recipients
are Janet Johnson, right, Peggy Cunningham, second from right, and
George Wilds, third from right. Nominees are Sonya Brockington, Margie
Cobbs, Dee Crawford, Heather Dismuke and Bruce Mills.
Other nominations for September include Sonya Brockington, Controller’s
Office/Accounting Services; Margie Cobbs, Controller’s
Office/Accounting Services; Dee Crawford, Human Resources
Management/Benefits; Heather Dismuke, Controller’s Office/Accounts
Payable; and Bruce Mills, Engineering & Facilities.
The Applause Employee of the Month program was created to recognize
employees who go above and beyond job requirements and offer excellent
service to the MUSC community. F&A sponsors the employee
appreciation event, generally held on the third Wednesday of each
month, to recognize Applause Award nominations and PEER Postcard
milestones for service excellence. The next F&A Employee of the
Month event will be held Nov. 28.
