World Healthcare Communications
Conference scheduled Oct. 9-12
The
largest gathering of researchers, educators and administrators
whose focus is improving the patient-provider relationship and
communication in health care will gather Oct. 9-12 at the Francis
Marion Hotel. Participants will attend the International
Conference on Communication in Healthcare (ICCH) .
The event is expected to draw interdisciplinary health professionals
including physicians, nurses, dietitians, social workers, doctorate
researchers, patients and associates involved in the organization and
representing 44 countries. About 400 presentations including oral
abstracts, posters, workshops and interest groups are scheduled giving
participants a chance to interact with faculty, students, researchers,
health educators and communications experts.
The conference is sponsored by the American Academy on Communication in
Healthcare, the European Association on Communication in
Healthcare, Northwestern University's Center for Communication and
Medicine, Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and MUSC.
MUSC provost John Raymond, M.D., and John Feussner, M.D., chairman,
Department of Medicine, will speak at the opening plenary session Oct.
10. Keynote speakers will feature Carolyn M. Clancy, M.D., director for
the Agency for Healthcare Research Quality; Richard Selzer, M.D., a
general surgeon and medical writer, and Theo Scofield, a family
physician and medical communi-cations consultant from the U.K.
The ICCH meet on a rotating basis in the U.S. and Europe.
Previous conference sites were at the University of Bruges in
Bruges, Belgium (2004); at Northwestern University in Chicago (2005),
and Basle University in Basle, Switzerland
