you would like to see offered.
Health 1st, the MUSC employee wellness program, focuses on physical,
nutritional and emotional health and injury reduction. This program
encourages MUSC employees and others through the community to
participate in programs that promote the health and well-being of the
MUSC community.
Below are some upcoming classes/events for the remainder of 2007. Most
events are free, but registration is usually required. To register for
any of the following classes/screenings, or for information on Health
1st, call Beka Hardin at 792-9959, e-mail the Health 1st staff at
health1st@musc.edu, or drop by the Wellness Wednesday in the Children’s
Hospital lobby.
- Worksite Screenings—Employees can receive a thorough
preventive health screening on the MUSC campus. The screening includes
height, weight, blood pressure, and blood will be drawn for a blood
chemistry profile, hemogram, and blood lipid profile. In most health
care settings this screening is valued at $200. Employees who are
subscribers of the State Health Plan, BlueChoice/Companion, Cigna, and
MUSC Options can participate for only $15 and employees without this
type of insurance can participate for $38. Screenings are performed
every three months and the next one will be Jan. 24.
- Wellness Wednesdays—Every Wednesday, employees are invited
to stop by the Health 1st table in the lobby of the Children’s Hospital
between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to ask questions and obtain information
related to health promotion, disease prevention, and early disease
detection. The usual presenters are from MUSC health experts.
