AIDET Blitz in the
Children’s Hospital
MUSC women’s and children’s administration is conducting an AIDET Blitz
twice per week throughout nursing units.
The goal of the AIDET Blitz is to remind staff of the importance of
AIDET (Acknowledge the patient; Introduce yourself, your skill set,
your professional credentials and your training; Duration with an
explanation of the test and how long it will be to complete;
Explanation of the test and what to expect; Thank you for choosing
MUSC) and its role in patient and family satisfaction. An AIDET
rounding cart is supplied with candy, snacks, soft drinks, and prizes.
Nursing staff are encouraged to answer a question about AIDET and
select a prize. This facilities interaction and discussion about the
use and importance of AIDET in daily practice. AIDET Blitzes are
conducted for day and night shift staff.
MUSC administration has found the AIDET Blitzes to be very successful,
and have received positive feedback from staff. It is consider a real
“win” for patients and families.

double referral bonus for registered nurse recruitment
The three-month RN recruitment campaign continues until Jan. 7.
MUHA will continue to double the current employee referral bonus
for RNs hired for selected units.
Any medical center (MUHA) employee who refers a permanent full time
nurse with at least one-year of experience is eligible to receive
$2,000 if the referral is hired by one of the following units: Main OR,
Institute of Psychiatry, 7East (Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit), Digestive
Disease Acute Care Medical/Surgical Unit or Digestive Disease Intensive
Care Unit. Current employee referral program rules, regulations and

Pillar awards presented at
Leadership Development Institute (LDI)
The MUSC Excellence pillar awards were presented to leaders whose
performance stands out as a demonstration of MUSC Excellence values
and/or creates very good results that positively impact one or more of
MUSC pillar goals.
The results of their actions are specific and measurable. Stuart Smith
and his administrative team announced the quarterly winners as a part
of the Reward and Recognition program during last week’s LDI. The
awards include an individualized pillar trophy and a certificate.

Quarterly service support
winners recognized
Quarterly patient satisfaction banners were awarded a few weeks ago to
the clinical areas. During the Dec. 5 LDI, the quarterly patient
satisfaction award winners announced the support department that helped
them to reach their patient satisfaction scores.
The following support areas received their banners:
Inpatient areas
7C Children’s Hospital and Perinatal Services (99th percentile)
recognized Occupational Therapy; 7E Adult Hospital (69th percentile)
recognized Environmental Services; and 4N CDAP Institute of Psychiatry
(64th percentile) recognized Facilities Management.
Outpatient areas
Pediatric GI (70th percentile) recognized Rutledge Tower
Transportation; Adult Maxillofacial (99th percentile) recognized
Ambulatory Care Registration; Hollings Cancer Center Thoracic Surgery
(97th percentile) recognized Radiology
Highest Staff Satisfaction-Support Services Department of the
quarter—Communications Call Center.
