Nursing association to host
homecoming
The
MUSC Nursing Alumni Association will celebrate Homecoming 2007
Saturday, March 3 at The Citadel's Holliday Alumni Center.
The event will include an oyster roast, class reunions, presentation of
four student scholarships, and the announcement of the Outstanding
Alumni Award recipients.
An open house will take place at the College of Nursing from 10 a.m.
until noon with a nostalgic visit to CON. Nursing Dean Gail Stuart,
Ph.D., and other college representatives will attend.
One of the highlights of the evening will be the charity silent auction
for student scholarships. The Alumni Association awards annual student
scholarships that are supported by proceeds of the auction. Last year,
the auction raised more than $4,000. Parking is available in front and
beside the alumni center and across the street at Johnson Hagood
Stadium. Some anniversary-year classes are planning individual class
activities on Friday or Saturday, as announced to class members.
Contact the Alumni Office at 792-7979 or toll free at (800) 202-9306
for further information.
The Nursing Alumni Association was initiated in 1942 as the Graduate
Nurses Association.
In 1945 it changed its name to the Alumnae of the School of Nursing of
the Medical College of the State of South Carolina. The College of
Nursing Alumni Association remains very active with 4,983 members,
including 492 full-life members and 368 Golden Graduates. In addition
to sponsorship of alumni events and recognition of alumni achievement,
members are actively involved in career mentoring for current nursing
students. Current officers for the association are: Florence
Simmons-president; Ethel Amerson—past-president; Markita
Ebersole—president elect; Karlayne Toole—secretary; Karen
Rankine—treasurer; Mary Bierman/Rhonda Flynn—membership committee
chairpersons; Vickie Hoover-Daniel/Stephanie Chomos—Outstanding Alumnus
Award chairpersons; Brenda Gumm-Carey/Kim Harris-Eaton—Nominating
Committee chairpersons; Tanya Lott/Jill Barton—members at large.
