Medical Center HRM to offer training
courses
The
Medical Center will offer training sessions to Medical University
Hospital Authority employees. For information on the following

Management
Orientation—(Supervisors, managers, directors and administrators)
Orientation will be offered 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., May 24, and 8 a.m. to
3:30 p.m., May 30; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 19, and 8 a.m. to 3:30
p.m., July 20; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 22, and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.,
Oct. 23. All sessions are held in the computer lab, Room 220, Clinical
Sciences Building.
MUHA is committed to providing leadership staff with information and
tools that will assist staff in their roles. Topics include human
resources, compliance, safety and security, payroll, performance
improvement, finance, hospital service coordinators, and interpretive
services. This program, offered quarterly, may be used as a refresher

Business
Managers Meeting—(Business managers, timekeepers, administrative staff)
These meetings, held from 10 to 11 a.m. May 23 and Nov. 21 in 2West
Amphitheater, are normally held quarterly or as directed by change.
Topics include but are not limited to employment, compensation,
employee relations, records management and benefits. Reservations are
not required.
Family
Medical Leave Act (FMLA)—(Medical Center employees)
Sessions will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. April 4, and 10 a.m. to noon
Oct. 29 in 2West Classroom.
How does an employee qualify for protection under the FMLA? What are
the obligations of managers, supervisors and employees? Answers to
these questions will be discussed during the half-day sessions.

Hire
the Right Person
Seminars will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. April 2 and Oct. 1 in 2
West Classroom.
This seminar reviews applicable labor and hiring laws, interview
techniques and record keeping. At the end of the session, attendees
will be equipped to prepare for an interview and handle employment
selection decisions.

Employee
Performance Management System (EPMS)
The EPMS sessions will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. April 12, and 10 to
11:30 a.m. Oct. 22 in 2West Classroom.
The sessions will provide a general overview of MUHA Performance
Management processes including the development and use of the position
description/evaluation document during the planning and annual review
periods. Also discussed will be how to respond to unacceptable work
performance and the implementation of the work improvement process.

Plan
for Your Future—(Retiring from MUHA and the South Carolina Retirement
System)
The planning sessions will be held from 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. and 12:30 to
1:20 p.m. June 18 and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and noon to 12:50 p.m.
Dec. 7 in 2West Classroom.
Topics include planning for retirement and budget preparation.

Basic
Finance and Financial Planning
The finance and planning courses will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
April 18; 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. April 24; noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 10; and 4 to
5 p.m. Sept. 10, in 2West Classroom.
The courses include a discussion on cash reserves, consumer debt and
insurance protection. How to plan successfully for a long term goal
such as retirement, including goal setting, running an analysis and
viable solutions to shortfalls.

Benefits
Fair
The annual Benefits Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 18 in
the Children's Hospital lobby.
The fair will offer employees the opportunity to meet and talk to
representatives from the various retirement and benefit programs.
The
Disciplinary Policy
This program, offered from 2 to 4 p.m., May 3, and 10 a.m. to noon,
Nov. 5, in 2West Classroom, is designed to review the MUHA disciplinary
policy including proper progressive disciplinary actions, relevant
policies and practices, necessary documentation, appropriate actions,
and the MUHA grievance process.
