Presidential Scholars recogniton,
awards day slated for April 10
All
faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the Presidential
Scholars Recognition and Awards Day events Tuesday, April 10 at MUSC.
The 2006-2007 Presidential Scholars Program theme was “Eliminating
Disparities: Systematic Approach to Health Care Delivery.” The scholars
used a variety of perspectives, including human experiences, in order
to view the relationship between national approaches to health delivery
systems and the health disparities that exist in those systems. As a
result of the studies, the scholars developed a model of ideal systems
for the various population groups, culminating in a comparison of
proposed ideal systems for the distinct groups to seek and recommend
common elements.
The scholars will present their theme-based posters from noon to 1p.m.
in the lobby of the Education Center/Library Building. At 4 p.m., the
recognition and awards ceremony will be held in the Institute of
Psychiatry Auditorium.
The keynote speaker, Marvella E. Ford, Ph.D., associate director of
cancer disparities at the Hollings Cancer Center, will address the
audience on “Cancer Disparities in South Carolina: Steps Toward a
Solution.” Selected scholars will then present the findings of their
studies. A reception will follow in the lobby of the Institute of
Psychiatry.
