Letters of gratitude to MUSC staff,
faculty
I
(we) have received many letters commending MUSC faculty and staff for
outstanding patient care and assistance. These letters, or excerpts
from letters, from visitors, patients and their families provide ample
evidence of their high regard for our services. I am pleased to share
some of them with you, and recognize those who are providing skilled
and compassionate care.
—MUSC President Ray Greenberg,
M.D., Ph.D.
Dear
Jennifer Shambrook,
Thank you for a wonderfully organized educational experience [the South
African Delegation Study Tour]. It was most productive and informative
and we have been provided with some great ideas. You, your department,
Mary Helen Yarborough, Vanessa Hill, and anyone else involved in the
preparation of the tour made it all possible and we will forever be
thankful.
Dear
MUSC,
On the morning of one of my darkest days, I found a place between
heaven and earth where people scared and worried with no place to go
can find help. In a twilight room with dim lights flashing, soft alarms
sounding, and a Quiet Please light hanging from the ceiling I found a
team of angels working tirelessly to repair children who made a hard
journey to be with us. Along with their skills, was their earnest love
and compassion which gave me hope. The place I found was the Neonatal
ICU of the Children's Hospital.
Ms.
Sarah King,
My grandfather recently had triple bypass surgery at MUSC. He wanted me
to pass on to the staff at MUSC, 'I must tell you that should I ever
have to have another major surgical procedure, I will have it done at
the Medical University of South Carolina, even if I would have to
travel halfway around the world. The treatment and care I received from
them has been nothing but phenomenal, in light of the fact that
everyone from the janitorial department to the head of the Cardiac
Surgery Department are patient-oriented.
Dear
Dr. Greenberg,
I want to thank Candice Demers, R.N., for caring for my step-father. I
observed something special that day when I met her; something that is
rare these days, something genuine. I witnessed a superior level of
professionalism, understanding and heart-felt love from Candice. It was
very inspirational to watch her working in `the zone,' where the only
thing that mattered was the well-being and comfort of her patient; she
even comforted me! She possessed qualities only great nurses possess,
and I strive to reach that level of professionalism in my profession.
Dear
Dr. Greenberg,
I would like to take this opportunity to comment on how wonderful your
staff was while my daughter was a patient at The Children's Hospital.
All the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants and medical students
assigned to her in the PICU and the 7C Unit were very professional,
compassionate and showed so much empathy towards her, my husband and
myself. Gina Iacovella-Alderson, the medical student assigned to my
daughter, was out of this world. Her professionalism and mannerism were
more than anyone could ask for, and if the way she was with us is any
indication of how she will be in the future, she will be an outstanding
doctor. When my daughter was recovering, she was able to visit the
Atrium several times, and Morgan from Child Life visited her on several
occasions. She was very professional and had a wonderful way of dealing
with children. She helped make our very difficult situation easier to
deal with.
Dear
MUSC,
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November and have been treated at
MUSC for the past few months with compassion and kindness. I was very
apprehensive over the possibility of breast cancer when I went to
Mammography for a second mammogram and biopsy, but everyone was very
reassuring and sympathetic: Estelle, the receptionist; Theresa, a
nurse; and especially Jennifer Honeycutt, who even telephoned me at
home after the weekend to see how I was doing after the needle biopsy.
Dr. Costello was particularly helpful in overseeing all of the
diagnostic screening in a timely fashion and has an excellent team. The
Hollings Cancer Center is outstanding and provided me with excellent
care before and after surgery. The meetings with Drs. David Cole, Rayna
Hall and Buddy Jenrette have shown excellent professional medical care
as well as compassion. Jennifer Page has efficiently coordinated all my
appointments and treatments and is always patient and positive. I
congratulate you on the level of care, the confidence they inspire, and
their kindness to me as a person. I shall begin radiation therapy in a
week or so and hope to be a “former patient” soon, but I shall not
forget the excellent care I received at MUSC. We are fortunate to have
a teaching hospital of such quality. Thank you.
