Palmetto Project depicts life in
South Carolina
The
MUSC Art Committee and Student Government Association are presenting a
photographic exhibition beginning March 21 as part of the first
Palmetto Portraits Project, a collaborative endeavor with the Halsey
Institute of Contemporary Art and the South Carolina State Museum.
These are a few of
the many photographs depicting life across South Carolina that
will be on display in the MUSC Library.
The exhibition will display works by six South Carolina photographers
who have captured South Carolinians in moments from their daily lives.
The intent of the exhibition is to remind students, faculty and staff
of the many people across the entire state from all walks of life who
MUSC serves each and every day.
An
exhibit and luncheon will be held for MUSC students at noon March 21 in
the Education Center/Library Building. MUSC faculty, staff and general
public are welcome to attend a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening.
MUSC
commissioned noted photographers to portray through their work South
Carolinians in the Lowcountry, the Piedmont and the Upstate—reflecting
the full range and diversity of the state's citizens, occupations and
recreational activities. As part of its effort to establish a permanent
collection of work at MUSC, the university and its partners are
also donating an identical set of photographs to the permanent
collection of the S.C. State Museum in Columbia.
