May designated as fitness month
For information about the prevention and
management of hear disease, stroke, osteoporosis and upcoming events
and activities at the Harper Student Wellness Center, visit the
Wellness Wednesday booth from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 2 in the Children’s
Hospital lobby.
May is full of opportunities to get involved in physical fitness and
healthy lifestyle promotions. Nationally, May is recognized by the
American Heart Association for promoting stroke prevention and
awareness. It’s also the month for education about blood pressure by
the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
The National Osteoporosis Foundation promotes education of osteoporosis
prevention, treatment and management of the disease that affects both
men and women across our nation.
May is additionally acknowledged as the National Physical Fitness and
Sports month by the Presidents’ Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
The first MUSCMan Triathlon and Biathlon Training Program will be held
from May 8 through June 15. It is open to anyone, at any fitness level,
who desires to learn how to train for cycling, running and swimming in
a biathlon or triathlon competition. For more information, call
792-5757 or stop by the MUSC Harper Student Wellness Center Membership
desk.
The center will also sponsor an open house during May for employees and
students. More information will be available at the May 2 Wellness
Wednesday.
In addition, employees are encouraged to join or organize an MUSC
Wellness Team. Contact Annie Lovering with Health 1st at 792-1245 for
more information or go to http://www.musc.edu/medcenter/health1st
and click on “Wellness Teams” listed under the Events section. Although

Nutrition
As it gets warmer, your family will probably start to grill outside and
enjoy the weather. If so, don’t forget the fruits and vegetables. Just
about any type of fruit and vegetable can be grilled.
