Go Red for Women theme at Ginn Tribute
As
some of the world’s best women golfers and area spectators focus on
the white golf balls being hit and played around the RiverTowne Country
Club course, no one will have any trouble spotting red among the greens
and fairways. The color is part of the Go Red for Women initiative
featured on June 1 at the Ginn Tribute Hosted by Annika event in Mount
Pleasant.
The Go Red for Women theme is part of a national movement empowering
women and promoting the awareness of heart disease as the No.1 killer
of American women and men. Tournament participants are encouraged to
wear red to support awareness and strengthen this effort.
“When women see the red dress symbol they understand that it helps them
to be aware of the risk of heart disease,” said Pam Morris, M.D.,
assistant professor of medicine, MUSC Women's Heart Program. “It also
encourages them to live a heart-healthy lifestyle and to recognize
symptoms of heart attack and stroke. In an event like this, we hope to
draw attention to what the red dress is all about.”
Participants can learn all about good heart health and risk factors
associated with heart disease by visiting the MUSC booth at the Ginn
tourney. Visitors can sign up for prize drawings, giveaways and other
goodies.
