Experts to discuss digestive disease
With
nationally and internationally known experts, the Digestive Disease
Center (DDC) is poised to offer employees help with digestive diseases.
Got GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)? Burning questions about
heartburn? Questions about other digestive disease questions? The
mission of the DDC is to promote digestive health through excellence in
clinical care, research and education.
On July 11, health care professionals will be available to talk with
Wellness Wednesday participants about swallowing issues, diseases of
the liver, innovative and new technologies offered at MUSC as well as
what to expect when patients have their upper or lower endoscopy done.
Be sure to stop by and register for free drawings from 10 a.m. to 1
p.m. in the Children's Hospital lobby. Participants do not have to be
present to win.
Following is the schedule of events:
10 to 10:30 a.m.: Neeraj
Sharma, M.D., will answer questions about swallowing issues; Melissa
Hulsey, R.N., will discuss hepatitis C and nonalcoholic fatty liver
disease.
10:30 to 11 a.m.: Laura
Lail, R.N., will discuss general gastroenterology; Suzanne Mobberly,
R.N., and Colleen Alcott, R.N., will answer questions about GI
procedures and the preparations.
11 to 11:30 a.m.:
Jennifer Smith, R.N., will address right upper quadrant pain and diet
for the biliary patient.
11:30 a.m. to noon: Tammy
Glenn, R.N., will tell participants about capsule endoscopy.
Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Merriman
Dowdle, physician assistant-certified, will address Crohn’s disease,
ulcerative colitis and general gastroenterology.
12:30 to 1 p.m.: Gregg
Buck, physician assistant-certified, will answer questions about
feeding tubes.
Someone will be available to discuss current clinical trials in
gastroenterology and hepatology.
