Campus computer store is moving

Information Services
The Computer Connection, the MUSC campus computer store, has moved to 25 Ehrhardt St.

The move places the store and the field engineers in a more central location and closer to the Ashley River Tower (the new hospital). Approximately 18 employees are affected.

This move is part of the OCIO’s vision for bringing Information Technology goods and services to more diversified locations around campus. The Ehrhardt site is the former location of University Communications.

“It’s a somewhat smaller site,” said Ken Bowman, desktop services manager for IS, “so that aspect of the move will be challenging. But it affords us the opportunity to make positive changes in some of our processes. Our focus will still be on delivering computer equipment and dispatching the field engineers in a timely manner.”

Bowman added, “I believe the staff will like the new location when all the renovations are completed. I have been pleasantly surprised with the level of ongoing renovations to improve our work environment.”

The Computer Connection and field engineer work space will be on the first floor, which makes better business sense from a customer walk-up perspective. The Computer Connection will offer expanded hours for walk-in pickups after the move: 8 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Established in 1993, Computer Connection serves MUSC as a South Carolina state contract ordering center for computer hardware from Apple, Dell, IBM, Corporate Express Imaging, etc. It also handles and recommends a line of Dell and HP printers.
