WOMEN SCHOLARS' INITIATIVE The Women Scholars' Initiative is sponsoring a spring colloquium at 4 p.m. April 5 in Room A105 of the College of Health Professions. Guest speaker, Lynn Weber, Ph.D., professor and director of women's studies at the University of South Carolina, will present, “Advancing Women in Academe: The Promise and the Practice.” The seminar is open to all students, faculty and staff. Waring Lecture and Annual Meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 12 in the Basic Science Building auditorium. Michael McVaugh, Ph.D., from the University of North Carolina—Chapel Hill, will present his talk, “Medieval Surgery: One Could Do Worse.” McVaugh studies the history of medicine and science from the middle ages to the late 17th century and teaches courses in medieval history, the Scientific Revolution, classical science (1700 to 1950), and early modern medicine (1500 to 1700).
