Meet...Brett

Name: Brett Cunningham.

Department: Food & Nutrition in ART

How long have you been at MUSC: Since 2007.

Why did you come to Charleston: For the job and beautiful surroundings.

What was your first job: Bussing tables in a restaurant at 14.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job: Customer satisfaction; being recognized for putting out a good product.

What is your greatest challenge: Getting people past the misconception that hospital food is horrible. We use fresh vegetables, and good, quality ingredients. It’s heart-healthy. We removed all fried foods from the line in April, which was tough, because fried chicken was our #1 seller.

Item you must have in your refrigerator: Good, quality beer.

Something people don’t know about you: I like to rebuild engines, and I do woodwork.

Words of advice: When you realize you’ve made a mistake, make amends immediately. It’s easier to eat crow while it’s still warm.

Least favorite chore: Emptying the dishwasher.

How do you stay fit: I watch what I eat and  run with my two dogs, Gibbs and Layla.
