Division of Education and Student Services
The University's Division of Education and
Student Services (DESS) is committed to building a culture of employee
appreciation and recognition.
The division is led by Valerie West, Ed.D.,
associate provost for education and student life, who recognizes and
values the contributions of her staff in support of the university’s
mission. With these tenants in mind and the spirit of MUSC Excellence,
the division adopted a program to recognize outstanding contributions.
A selection committee representing areas in the division evaluated
nominations for employee of the quarter. Though not limited to these
attributes, the following were among those recommended for
consideration.
Personal characteristics
Reliable and consistent;
Spirit of congeniality, generates enthusiasm in others;
Volunteering services that are beyond assigned responsibilities.
Quality of work
Provides first class customer support;
Consistently provides high quality work that exceeds expectations;
Finds creative ways to increase efficiency and save the department time and money.
Leadership and interpersonal skills
Inspires others to work together and achieve their fullest potential;
Instills a sense of respect and trust in their colleagues;
Flexible in changing environments, fluidly handles the problems as they occur.
Employee of quarter honors were presented by West to four division
staff members in recognition of their contribution to the division and
the university. Recognized for the first quarter of the fiscal year
2008-09 were Susan Fox, administration, Christy Huggins, academic
support, Michelle Muir, enrollment management, and Janis Newton,
student health and wellness.
