MUSC Excellence
Employee’s provider of choice for OB services

Quality: Providing quality patient care in a safe environment
Julie Heckman, R.N., nurse manager of pediatric emergency department, applauded MUSC for the care she received as a patient.

What were your worries prior to going to MUSC for your care?
There were only a few small worries I had prior to going to MUSC for the care leading and up to the delivery of my first child. One worry related to knowing that adequate privacy could be given to me and my family during such a busy and exciting time. I also worried a little bit about delivering in a teaching hospital, even though I have practiced as a nurse in a teaching hospital and know how important it is for everyone to learn.

What worries were eliminated after your experience?
I was very pleased with the privacy during an extremely long delivery and post-partum stay. I realized after delivering that coworkers and peers respect privacy and the need for rest during such an exhausting stay. The nurses and physicians also did a great job with professionalism, which can be difficult when having to care for someone that you work with.

Delivering in a teaching hospital was much different than I expected. I had been worried about multiple caretakers in and out of the room. The physician group did a wonderful job of communicating and working together.

Do you have any words of wisdom for women who are hesitant to receive their care from MUSC?
I felt at ease knowing that the most qualified nurses and physicians in the area were caring for me and the best resources were right here for my baby if anything ever went wrong.

What was the best thing about your experience at MUSC?
The best thing about my experience at MUSC throughout my care was convenience. My prenatal appointments were always on time and right down the street.

What made you comfortable in choosing MUSC?
I am proud to be an employee of MUSC and felt confident in knowing that I would receive great care here. The comfort of having my pain controlled, having someone frequently checking on us and having knowledgeable nurses and physicians assured we made the right choice.
