Children's Hospital holiday card project starts spreading cheer

In its 16th year, the Kids Helping Kids holiday card project pairs local businesses and individuals with MUSC Children’s Hospital patients, siblings of patients and young friends of the Children’s Hospital to make a difference in the lives of the children of the Lowcountry.

Since selecting the artwork for the 2008 holiday season six months ago, sponsors of MUSC Children’s Hospital Fund Holiday Card Project were able to personally meet the project artists at the annual Holiday Card Kick Off in an Oct. 29 ceremony at St. Luke’s Chapel. Ceremony attendees got into the holiday spirit with the help of the Ashley Hall Upper School choir and College of Charleston men’s basketball coach Bobby Cremins, who also is honorary chair of the project.

“Each year when I get to meet the child who created my card, I am always amazed not only at the talent of the young artist, but at his or her kindness toward helping children at MUSC,” said John M. Dunnan, owner of John M. Dunnan Galleries on Church Street.

Sponsors underwrite the cost of printing so that all money raised from the sale of the cards will go directly to the programs at the MUSC Children’s Hospital.  All cards selected for the project will be packaged in multipacks and sold to the public. In addition to packs of cards, the project is offering gift tags of the five finalists for the Card of the Season. All artwork can be viewed at http://www.musckids.com
