Omicron Kappa Upsilon inducts new
members
Omicron
Kappa Upsilon (OKU), the National Dental Honorary Society, inducted
eight new student-members at a ceremony April 4 at the Country Club of
Charleston. The dinner and induction ceremony was presided by Ron Bell,
DDS, director of graduate orthodontics.
OKU annually inducts a select group of graduating fourth-year dental
students who demonstrate exemplary traits of character, professional
qualities and scholarship as described in the OKU by-laws and voted by
the membership. Students selected include Beth Alderman, Erin Conard,
Jina Kang, Suren Paravyan, Katherine Renne, Walter Renne and Alison
Sanders.
The new
student-inductees are from left Suren Paravyan, Jina Kang, Katherine
Renne, Walter Renne, Beth Alderman, Erin Conard, Alison Sanders and
Gail Ward.
Also inducted into OKU in the honorary category was Gail Ward, a
long-time dental assistant in the College of Dental Medicine’s
Department of Restorative Dentistry. Ward was inducted not only for her
30-plus years of dedicated service to MUSC, but also because of her job
excellence. Highly respected among students, faculty and co-workers,
Ward is the first inductee into MUSC’s Zeta-Eta Chapter of OKU.
Also introduced at the banquet was next year’s slate of officers. Bob
Draughn, DSc, will serve as the organization’s president for
2008-09.
