Excellence at the university
F&A makes changes
to award programs
The
University Finance & Administration (F&A) Rewards and
Recognition (RR) Programs recognize and reward employees for
significant accomplishments in customer service and performance.
The objective of the program is to create a culture in which employees
and managers value, respect and promote achievement of the
organization’s goals. The RR committee received feedback on changes
employees would like to see. Those changes were
incorporated into various programs.
Summary of changes effective
July 1
Applause Program
The Applause Program will revert back to its original University
Applause Program status. This means that Employee of the Month will be
discontinued. All nominations will be accepted without awards attached.
Recipients continue to receive an Applause certificate, a copy of the
nomination via their department head, and will be recognized in The
Catalyst.
PEER Postcard Program
The period changed from calendar year to fiscal year to align the
program with the university’s budget cycle. This means that the
milestone accumulation started over on July 1. The maximum amount of
milestones that have been received to this point will be honored. PEER
milestone awards, Applause recipients and Employee of the Month for
June will be recognized at the July 16 Employee Appreciation Event.
PEER milestone rewards
Two postcards equal an MUSC Excellence Mug; six postcards equal a
$25 gift card; 12 postcards equal a $30 gift card; 18 postcards equal a
$50 gift card; and 24 postcards equal a $100 gift card.
Employees receiving more than 24 postcards are eligible to compete for
the Cindy Garmon PEER of the Year Award.
- PEER of the Year name has changed to the Cindy Garmon PEER
of the Year Award. PEER of the Year is dedicated in memory of Lucinda
Garmon, former Parking Management employee and member of the RR
committee. To be eligible for the Cindy Garmon PEER of the Year
Award, all postcards received during the fiscal year must have been
remitted by June 30. Only those with 24 or more postcards within
the fiscal year will be eligible to compete for this award. In the
event of a tie, the committee will determine a winner by casting a
second vote.
Employee Recognition
Program
The Employee Recognition Program was created to provide a unique way to
recognize F&A staff for performance/activity which is over and
above normal job duties and is based on the five Pillars of Excellence.
The Employee Recognition Program is the highest recognition tool
available to F&A staff.
The nomination should be written to recognize an employee’s specific
action or effort. The narrative should follow the Pillar of Excellence
concept identified on the nomination form (People, Service, Quality,
Finance, and Growth).
Nominations must pertain to an individual act of achievement, and be as
detailed as possible to communicate the impact that the particular
action is having or had on employee’s unit, department and university.
It is essential that nominations provide explicit detail regarding the
employee’s accomplishment.
Monthly award
Employees with qualifying nominations for a preceding month will be
recognized at the monthly Employee Appreciation Event and awarded a
gift. If a nominee is selected more than once, he or she will be given
their selection of an equivalent award in stock thereafter.
Quarterly award
Employee(s) of the Quarter will be selected by the RR committee from
eligible nominations received during the quarterly period.
Employee(s) of the Quarter will be announced at the Employee
Appreciation Event held the month following the quarter. The winner
will receive a letter from the vice president of F&A, a framed
certificate and a $50 gift card. Employee(s) of the Quarter are
eligible to compete for Employee of the Year.
F&A sponsors a monthly appreciation event for staff members.
The event is held from 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every
month in Room 803, Harborview Office Tower. For information on program
rules and details visit http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/vpfa/rewards/index.htm.
