Close to 400 runners and walkers participated in the first MUSC 2-Mile Wellness Run & Walk Sept. 20 at the Harper Student Wellness Center recognizing the center’s 20th anniversary. Participants ran a two-mile route that began and ended in front of Ashley River Tower and extended down Bee Street and around other downtown neighborhood streets. Following the race everyone enjoyed the race expo, located at the Wellness Center gymnasium, and featured health education and sponsor booths. Sponsors included Atlantic Bank & Trust, Merrill Lynch, Try Sports, Earth Fare Market & Cafe, Ink & Cloth Graphics, Aquafina and Daniels Acura of Charleston. The run/walk was sanctioned as a United States of America Track & Field-certified event and was listed on the America’s Running routes registry. Proceeds from the event will be used to support Harper Student Wellness Center fitness programs, new equipment and other community wellness activities.
