RecycleMania 2009 Question of the Week


Competition rules
--RecycleM ania 2009 questions will be published in The Catalyst each week.
--Participants may submit their entry by sending an e-mail to recycle@musc.edu.
--Include full name and campus address in this e-mail.
--Deadline to submit an entry is Tuesday (following the Friday question) at  9 a.m.
--Correct answers will be entered in a weekly drawing.
--The name of the winner and the answer will be announced on the following Friday's publication.
 
Weekly questions will  be posted on the recycling Web site at http://www.musc.edu/gogreen and in the elevators of the Education Center/Library Building along with weekly status updates and the answers to the previous week’s questions.

Last week's question, answer and winner
Question: The Charleston County Recycling Center and has more than 50 drop-sites. List four items that cannot be recycled at these sites.

Answer: Drinking glasses; hazardous materials containers; plastic bags; plastic or wire hangers; pots and pans; styrofoam (packaging, peanuts); and textiles (clothing).
 
The winner is Allen Helsel, College of Dental Medicine.

Question of the week
In order to be recycled at MUSC cardboard boxes must be flattened and placed next to the trash. Last year MUSC processed 481 tons or 962,000 pounds of cardboard. How many cubic yards of landfill space did MUSC save last year?
