Teaching Excellence Award nominees announced


Faculty and students nominated 35 faculty members to be considered for this year’s MUSC Foundation Teaching Excellence Awards.
 
A review committee composed of faculty representatives, the general faculty and the Student Government Association will select the recipients.
 
Up to four awards will be presented in the following categories: Developing Teacher, for teaching excellence demonstrated by a junior faculty member; Educator-Lecturer, for excellence in traditional didactic teaching; Educator-Mentor: Clinical/Professional, for teaching excellence in mentoring and serving as a role model for students in clinical or research activities, and Educator-Mentor: Academic/Scholarship, for teaching excellence in mentoring and serving as a role model for students in scholarly or academic development.
 
These awards will be presented at the Faculty Convocation in August, but the provost, John R. Raymond Sr., M.D., will announce the winners in The Catalyst the week before Commencement for the benefit of graduating students.
 
Nominees are as follows:
Developing Teacher: Abby Kazley, Health Professions; Brad Keith, Medicine; Juan Carlos Velez, Medicine.

Educator-Lecturer: Craig Beeson, Pharmacy; Peter Bowman, Health Professions; Jerry Burik, Health Professions; Reamer Bushardt, Health Professions; Renee Martin, Medicine; Jack Thomas, Health Professions (also nominated for Educator-Mentor: Clinical/Professional); Andrea White, Health Professions (also nominated for Educator-Mentor: Clinical Profess-ional).
