Caroline Counts,
R.N., research coordinator in the MUSC Division of Nephrology, received
an award from the American Nephrology Nurses’ Association (ANNA) for
Outstanding Contributions to ANNA. This award recognizes one nurse each
year who has made outstanding contributions to ANNA’s goals. As the
award recipient, Counts received a lifetime membership to ANNA, a logo
pin and a commemorative plaque.
Counts began nephrology nursing in 1970. She took the first certified
nephrology nurse exam when it was offered in 1987. She joined the
Nephrology Nursing Certification Board in 1998 and continued when
it became the commission in 2000. In 2004, the Palmetto Chapter of the
ANNA established an MUSC College of Nursing Scholarship in Counts'
name. The scholarship is awarded to one advance nursing practice
student in each year who positively influences outcomes for patients
through advocacy, scholarship and excellence.
