Name: Deverett Smith.

Department: Carolina Family Care.

What was your first job: I worked in the underwear department of W.T. Grants.

What is the most rewarding aspect of your job: Being a patient advocate. Plus I meet the greatest people doing what I do.

If you could change careers, what would you be doing: I would be the owner of a garden center that specializes in native plants.

Pets: A blond Pekapoo, named Schatze.

Favorite Web site: Facebook.

Pet peeve: Lazy nurses.

Person you most admire: Mother Teresa. She lost her faith in the middle of India and had the guts to admit it.

Favorite way to unwind after a long day: With a glass of wine.

Biggest challenge: Raising my child.

Idea of a perfect vacation: I just want some time off. I’d spend it in my garden, painting and listening to good music.

What defines you: Dedication and devotion.

Favorite quote: Can’t dance and too fat to fly.
