Women's club needs you

The Medical University Women's Club (MUWC) is accepting new members. Following are questions and answers regarding the club.

What does the women’s club do?
The club supports MUSC through volunteerism and by awarding scholarships to selected students in the six colleges. Opportunities for fellowship through programs and special interest groups also are provided.

Who can join?
The MUWC is open to female faculty, professional staff and administrative officers as well as spouses of faculty, professional staff and administrative officers of MUSC.

Why should I join?
Members can make a bigger difference in the lives of students,  patients and staff of MUSC.

The MUWC can be a starting place to volunteer. Some of its members volunteer within the medical center, Children’s Hospital and Hollings Cancer Center. A variety of events are held to support the patients at MUSC. The group also gets together for leisure and social activities.   There are a variety of programs, lectures, trips and special events.

For information and  to join, visit  http:// www.musc.edu/womensclub.

Scholarship applications
The Medical University Women’s Club is accepting applications for the 2009 MUWC Scholarship Awards.

Applications are available at http://www.musc.edu/womensclub or at the Office of Volunteer Services (first floor of the Children’s Hospital, next to the Hospital Gift Shop). The deadline for submission of applications is 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21 at the Volunteer Services Office.

The scholarship committee will review the applications and select the recipients based on financial need, academic achievement, community and university service, as well as on their personal statement and a letter of recommendation from an MUSC faculty member.

MUWC will present these awards at its annual membership coffee meeting Sept. 9.
